Web FAQ's

There will be many questions along the way to building your website. You should never feel like you have a stupid question! Always ask and always get a satisfactory answer to insure you end up with the website and service that you anticipated.

Here are a few of the most common questions asked by clients. If you don't find the answer to your own questions here, email me. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Do I really need a website?

Maybe the best way to answer this is to review some of the key features available on a business website.

  • Information and/or online ordering for your customers is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

  • Business introduction and history.

  • Promote your business with full color photos, graphics, brochures and catalogs.

  • Provide instant contact information including name, street and email address, phone and fax numbers.

  • Reach customers looking for your product or service.

Where do I begin?

One of the first things you'll need to decide is on a Domain Name, www.yourname.com, .net, .org, etc.

How much will it cost?

Domain name registration and renewal fees are as low as $8.88 per year. I'll be happy to register your Domain Name on your behalf. There is no charge for this service.

There is a monthly charge for hosting your website on a server and some hosting services do have a setup fee. Prices vary depending on the features your site requires. Part of my job is to help you choose an appropriate service.

Design costs vary with each site and are a one-time fee. Each site has it's own determining factors; how many pages, functionality, graphics, amount of data entry required, customized forms, etc. Because of these factors and others it's impossible for me to quote a standard fee. Contact me for your personalized quote.

How long will it take?

A great deal of the time involved is related directly to the gathering of the necessary information, files, and graphics. Once the materials are ready and your preferences defined your site should be online within two to six weeks.

What information do I need to provide?

You'll need to compose the text content for each of your site's pages. This should be done in a text format, .txt, or a Word document, .doc, to avoid charges associated with the designer typing the text on your pages.

The graphics, photos, logo you'd like to include on your site should be in a graphic format. (You must own or have written permission of the copyrights of graphics you want to use.)

What about future changes to my site?

PDC can provide maintenance for your site on a contract or per hour basis. This can be customized to fit your needs.

If you'd like to make the changes yourself there are many options available including Microsoft FrontPage, using third party solutions, or the site can be developed to edit the content directly through your browser.

How will customers and clients find my site?

Once final payment is made PDC will register your website with the major search engines and directories.
I also encourage you to include your web address, www.yourname.com, on everything you can; advertisements, business cards, letterhead, checks, fax cover sheets, etc. Banner exchange programs, web rings and reciprocal links can also help increase traffic to your website.
